Day Trip to Chechen Itza
Chichén Itzá, founded in the year 514 AD, was once the capital of the ancient Mayan civilization and was recently declared one of the “7 Modern Wonders of the World.” The ruins are steeped in a magical history of bloody rituals of human sacrifice, a warrior culture, astrological discovery, and elaborately constructed Maya-Toltec buildings. The ruins are a must see for any visit to Cancun and traveling through the rustic Mayaland Hotel is the most provocative way to explore them. Gray Line offers the “only’ tour with exclusive access to the Mayaland Hotel, Conde Nast winner and National Geographic Regional Favorite!
Close enough to the archaeological zone to have its own private entrance, you are free to travel in and out of the archaeological zone as many times as you like. A shower and a dip in a cool Mayaland Hotel resort pool after a hot day at the ruins is truly a gift… not to mention a lounge chair to rest your feet and an ice cold drink.
ITINERARY:
Our excursion begins by picking up all passengers from the Resort lobby by 7:00 am
Arriving at the Mayaland Hotel, we will head directly to the archaeological site through the Mayaland Hotel’s private gate. At the site, our certified tour guide will take you on a 1.5 hour tour exploring the secrets of the ancient Mayan Civilization. Your guide will explain the historical significance of all the most important monuments before leaving you to discover the site on your own. Move at your own pace. Admire and take pictures with El Castillo.
Sites Include:
The Majestic Observatory
The Sacred Cenote - Where sacrifices once took place
The Ball Court - The largest and deadliest Ball Game in Mesoamerica. The arena is 168 meters in length and 70 meters in width with perfect acoustics.
The Pyramid of Kukulcan - Where both theology and astronomy combine to produce a unique spectacle twice a year, the Spring Equinox and the Autumn Solstice. On these days, the shadows projected over the architectural elements of the building resemble a serpent descending into the ground. Located inside the pyramid, is the famous Chac Mool sculpture and the Jaguar Throne.
After your first visit to the ruins, regroup to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the Mayaland Hotel serving traditional Yucatan dishes and other specialties including beef, chicken, fish, hamburgers and a salad bar. During lunch you will be entertained by traditional Yucatan music and dance performances by the Mayaland regional ballet. The afternoon is yours to enjoy with a return to the ruins, a dip in the pool, time to relax on a lounge chair, or a stroll through the Mayaland Hotel’s meticulously groomed tropical gardens.
We will depart at approximately 4:00 pm, arriving back at the first Cancun hotel at 7:30 pm.
INCLUSIONS:
Roundtrip Transportation from Cancun Hotels (Zone 1)
Access to Mayaland Hotel and Resort Amenities: Pool, Restrooms, Lounge Chairs, Gardens and More

Catamaran Trip to Isle Mujeres
Set sail on a 70 foot shiny white catamaran out into the turquoise Caribbean Sea to discover all the shades of blue. Laying across the open netting of the is the most exciting way to explore the sea above clear netting but what’s the most fun? Spinnaker Sailing! Hop on a small seat and let the wind hoist you over 20 feet into the air as you glide on the breeze before being dunked back into the sea. And it’s not snorkeling without the fish... that’s why we cruise far from shore to one of the area’s best coral reef national parks where you’re guaranteed to have the thrilling experience of being completely surrounded by a rainbow of brilliant tropical fish. Tropical rhythms fill the air and open bar services keep the drinks flowing throughout the journey. Relax the day away at our classic island beach club on the tropical paradise of Isla Mujeres. Complete with palm tree latched hammocks, thatched roofs and sunny beachside lounge chairs, the perfect day is well within reach on this fantasy island where pirates once buried their treasure.
ITINERARY:
We will begin by picking up passengers at 8:45-9:15am from the hotel lobby.
Set sail into the turquoise Caribbean Sea headed for Isle of Women, “Isla Mujeres.” Request your tropical drink of choice from the bartender and take a seat in the shade or enjoy the unique experience of stretching out at the front of the ship across our open netting, the only thing between you and the beautiful Caribbean Sea!
Relax and enjoy the views as we cruise along, stopping at a coral reef national park along the way for an hour of snorkeling. You’ll be guided through crystal clear 30 foot deep waters to admire beautiful coral formations, tropical fish and other interesting creatures of the Caribbean Sea. Your guide will sprinkle fish food into the water to completely surround you with schools of beautiful tropical fish. At the conclusion of your underwater journey, your catamaran will meet you at the other side of the reef to take you to the Albatros Beach Club.
As you make your way down the dock, don’t miss the chance to have your picture taken holding a shark! (Subject to availability and small $1-$2 tip) Then take a seat for beautiful ocean views while you enjoy a delicious all you can eat buffet lunch. You’ll also have open bar at the beach club and time to relax under palm trees in hammocks or lounge chairs.
Then re-board the catamaran and sail to the best shopping zone in Isla Mujeres. Browse a range of interesting shops with everything from classic souvenirs to incredible hand carved limestone and wooden sculptures. Although sometimes hard to find, you’ll also find beautiful preserved sea creatures and shark jaws straight from the sea. The only rule is, you never know what you’ll find on Isla Mujeres!
On our way back, weather permitting, you’re invited to participate in “spinnaker” (triangular sail) sailing. Jump into the water and sit on a padded rope before being lifted high into the air by a mini sail. Fly around in the wind from side to side before being dumped into the ocean. It’s an incredible experience you won’t forget!
